Amanda Young, Owner

Shanti Mama Wellness has grown out of a love of tradition, of healing and of acceptance. There are many things that we cannot change but we can affect how we treat our spirit and our bodies. Through my work as a Massage Therapist, Traditional Thai Medicine Practitioner, Doula and Herbalist, I hope to impart a feeling of deep relaxation, balance and gratitude. Our bodies hold an innate wisdom and strength and it is through this work that I hope to facilitate a  path to your own well-being.  By integrating modern therapies with traditional modalities of healing we will work together to find a balance between your individual areas of tension and your being as a whole.  I offer a warm, light filled and inviting space for treatment at the Chase Mill in Burlington, Vermont.

In 2010 I completed my Massage Therapist Certification through Wellness Massage Center and Institute in St. Albans, Vermont. Since this time I have had the opportunity to deepen my education; Studying Asian Cupping Therapy, Reiki, Perinatal Massage and Thai Massage through the Wellness Center in 2010 and 2011. In 2011, I completed Level I of Cranio Sacral Therapy through the Upledger Institute. At the end of 2011 I was privledged enough to travel for 9 months throughout Bali, Southeast Asia, India and Nepal. In this global classroom I was surrounded by many forms of ancient healing and numerous gifted healers. In Chiang Mai, Thailand I deepened my Thai Massage training with an incredible course through NAMO Yoga and Massage Center. Thai Massage is now an integral part of my practice.

I hold training in the Ashtanga Yoga lineage and bow with deep gratitude to my teacher Kathy McNames of Yoga Vermont. Here, I am able to nourish my own body and learn how to take this nourishment and discipline of this ancient practice, out of the studio and into the world around me. As a complement to my Ashtanga Practice, I have completed teacher training with Collette Crawford of the Seattle Holisitc Center. My work with Collette focused on Pre and Postnatal Yoga. I am so grateful to have my work and my passions blend together so effortlessly.

In the spring of 2011, I trained as a Labor and Postpartum Doula. My Labor Doula training is through DONA and my Pospartum Doula training, through CAPPA. I also have additional training through CAPPA as a Lactation Educator. I could not be more blessed and feel deeply honored to be a part of such an incredible and important time in a womans' life. To see a family grow, to watch not only a child be born but a mother and family as well       ~ That is a gift that is somedays beyond all understanding....

I am also a Certified Community Herbalist, beginning my third year of apprenticeship with the amazing Sage Mauer of The Gaia School of Healing. It is is the company of the plants, where I feel the most connected to source and my inner wisdom. My work in this realm has profoundly changed my life and the way in which I view total wellness. I offer herbal consultations and simple ways in which to incorporate this wisdom in your life.

Bodywork Offerings

Using a blend of sweedish, deep tissue, myofascial release, trigger point release, craniosacral, reiki and passive mobilzation, this custom massage is tailor suited to meet your bodies needs in the present moment. When muscles are stressed, they block oxygen and nutrients, leading to inflammation that builds up toxins in the muscle tissue. With the use of slow and sustained pressure, trigger point release and the manipulation of fascia, one many find great relief from chronic long-standing pain that they had resolved to living with. Ultimately massage contributes to overall well-being as it can faciltiate better sleep, help boost the immune system, balance the digestive system, increase circulation, facilitate the release of excess fluids and increase energy levels.

Using a specifically designed massage table, an expecting Mama can lie comfortably on her stomach during treatment! Massage during pregnancy has a wide range of benefits and can be received during the entire term of a low-risk pregnancy. During the first trimester it helps to alleviate morning sickness, fatigue, and headaches. In the second trimester it reduces backaches, leg cramps, and fatigue. Finally in the third trimester it reduces swelling/edema, enhances sleep, relieves neck, shoulder, knee, and low back pain, sore feet, and lessens emotional stress. Perinatal massage is also offered in your home and bedside in the hospital. This option is wonderful for Mother's on bed-rest, post-delivery or with other children at home.

Thai massage is an ancient ayurvedic healing art. Through application of pressure on energy lines, mama points and a vast array of passive stretching movements, this massage is performed with the hands, feet, knees and elbow's. The body experiences profound relaxation, peripheral stimulation of internal organs, increased flexibility and increased flow of energy. It is performed on a mat on the floor with the client comfortably dressed. A meditative practice for both client and practitioner reflecting the states of loving kindness and compassion, a true mediation in movement. A typical Thai massage is 2 hours covering the body quite completely but this treatment is also offered in 1 and 1 and 1/2 hour increments. It is a unique and deep massage that transforms the body to a more flexible, relaxed, lighter and less painful being.

Aromatherapy is the ancient practice of using essential oil to heal by stimulating the olfactory senses, mental responses, circulatory and respiratory functions. In this pampering treatment, we combine Swedish Massage techniques with the application of hand blended oils to transport you to a place of deep relaxation and gratitude.

By creating suction and negative pressure, cupping therapy can be used to soften tight muscles and tone attachments, loosen adhesions and lift connective tissue, bring hydration and blood flow to body tissues and drain excess fluids and toxins by opening lymphatic drainage pathways.  It stimulates the skin by increasing circulation while separating fused tissue layers and draining lymph to promote a smooth appearance and healthy glow. This is done by working deeper to help loosen adhesions, facilitating the muscles to operate more independently and stimulating healthy elimination of accumulated debris in the tissues, organs and systems. Cupping is an ideal treatment to add-on any Swedish or Deep Tissue Massage.

An exciting add-on, coming soon...
